(age 11)

An exquisite visual study of Tim's calves at age 11. (Part 1 of 3)

Tim is doing depth jumping. That is, he is jumping off a 2-foot box, landing on the cushioning and then springing up as hard as he can to land back on the starting point. He keeps this up for 10 minutes. It's incredibly difficult to do that long. When he's done his leg muscles are burning. He rests 2 minutes and then goes for 7 minutes, then for 4 minutes for a total of three sets of decreasing time.

He uses the box to land on because his leg muscles can exert tremendous force when he jumps and his feet need to have some protection. Tim put a coat in the box and wrapped some jars in it. Says Tim, "I could feel them breaking, and it made me want to jump even higher."
